Funeral Preparation for Parishioners
When a beloved member of your family dies, it is important to contact the Church Office as soon as is feasible. The funeral liturgy coordinator will meet with the family and share in remembering your loved one when you make the final arrangements for a funeral Mass at the Cathedral and a prayer service or rosary at the Wake.
Perhaps this is one of the greatest gifts you can give your family member who was baptized in the Catholic faith. Confident that family members are carrying out all that you would have wished to have happen, you may make arrangements to have planned giving to support the work of your parish which helps secure the future of our faith, while helping you meet your charitable giving goals.
The most popular planned gift is a bequest left in your will. The specific asset varies from person to person. You can leave the church anything of value such as land, home, collectibles, or stock. Typically, donors will leave a specific amount of cash as the last step of stewardship. It is also possible to leave a percentage, or the remainder, of your assets. Of course, there are tax benefits as well as the peace of mind of knowing that you have supported your parish. CLICK HERE for an informative document, "Planning Your Will". You can find sample language for leaving a bequest to your parish.
Upon the death of a loved one, the proper steps a family should take are as follows:
1. Call the funeral home to finalize all details and preparation
2. The funeral home will contact the Church for date and time
3. Call the Cathedral to determine the date and time when family member(s) can meet with a Cathedral staff member to finalize all details regarding the funeral. Bring any preplanning information with you to this meeting.
Cathedral parish is honored and privileged to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial for friends and family members of a deceased parishioner.
